When the nematodes are placed on the crown of the palm trees, they start searching for the larvae of their prey.
The nematodes penetrate the larvae through the natural body orifices. As soon as the nematodes penetrated the
larvae, the bacteria living in symbiosis with the nematodes are released. These bacteria produce a toxin that kills
the host. These bacteria transform the host tissue into digestible components for the nematodes.
The nematodes multiply in the cadaver and, when it disintegrates, a new generation of useful nematodes spreads
and starts searching for new victims. An infected red palm weevil larva changes its color from white beige to ochre
yellow.
