Biobest offers the complete control mix against several aphid species: Aphi-Mix-System

The population growth of aphids can be sometimes very fast, leading to great damage in several crops. It is therefore very important to quickly locate the aphids and take necessary measures.

Because aphid colonies often consist of several aphid species that are not always easily to determine or present in the crop, it can be necessary to introduce several kinds of parasitic wasps to control many species.
Biobest offers a mix of 1500 pupae composed of 4 aphid parasitoids: 500 Aphidius colemani, 250 Aphidius ervi, 250 Aphelinus abdominalis and 500 Aphidius matricariae.

This mix comes in a 250 ml tube filled with a buckwheat carrier.
Aphi-Mix-Systems is applicable in many crops such as tomato, cucumber, eggplant, strawberry, sweet pepper, tree nurseries, cut flowers (Gerbera, Chrysanthemum, Rose), pot plants (e.g. Anthurium).

The advantages are numerous

Preventative introduction of the predator ensures the effect with the outbreak of an aphids infestation. With the combined introduction of these 4 parasitic wasps it’s possible to efficiently control a whole range of aphids and therefore not necessary to identify the aphid species present in the crop.
Aphidius colemani is very efficient for the biological control of the cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) and the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae). Bigger aphid species such as the potato aphid and the glasshouse potato aphid are controlled by Aphidius ervi. Aphelinus abdominalis, adult females keeps on parasitizing for several weeks and it also feeds on aphids.

The parasitic wasp Aphidius matricariae can parasitize about 40 aphid species. It is mainly an excellent parasitoid of the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) and closely related species, the tobacco aphid (Myzus persicae var. nicotianae) and the peach potato aphid (Myzus persicae var. persicae). It has also a contributing effect in disturbing the population of the greenhouse potato aphids (Aulacorthum solani).

Other advantages of the mix

  • Longevity
  • Host feeding
  • Also controls well the cotton aphid and "red aphid"
  • Good searching ability
  • High number of eggs per female
  • Parasitation is easy to recognize (mummies)
  • Population maintains also at low infestations
