The advantages of bumble bee pollination results in higher fruit quality and quantity, as well as in considerable labour savings:

  • polyvalent workers: doing great in open field and protected crops.
  • buzz-pollination: able to dislodge pollen by vibration
  • also active on cold days: warm-blooded insects able to regulate their body temperature
  • less influenced by dark days: staying active on cloudy days, also in early morning and late evening.
  • more efficient pollen transfer: higher pollen load and more flower visits per flight
  • low flower discrimination: visit all susceptible flowers
  • more home-loving: active in close neigborhood where their hive is placed, do not migrate to other attractive crops
